Completed Survey / Survey Results

After looking back at my survey results today I have seen that it has been fully completed by 100 respondents. This is a great amount of responses and I will be analysing the results ready for finalising my branding and campaign idea.

Below are screen shots of the results I have received via the only survey maker Survey Monkey:

After looking thoroughly through the results I decided to create my own graphs representing the results. Please find these below. As questions 3 and 7 were not multiple choice, I could not create a graph for these, so I have displayed every individual answer which I received from my respondents.

Overall, I was extremely pleased with gaining 100 respondents. Even though it is still only a small sample, I can use the feedback and statistics I have gained to create an accurate project outcome.

My Survey - Shared Again

Today I have shared my survey on Facebook again to try and gain as many responses as possible. I have asked members of my family to also share the link to people they know with children. This has definitely helped in getting more people to respond to my survey.

At this point I did not have as many responses as I would have liked, therefore I shared it again. I asked my mum to share the link to all of the people that she knows with children, which a lot more than me. Hopefully this will help me in receiving more responses and more parents contributing to my survey.

Dumb Ways to Die - Campaign

The Dumb Ways to Die campaign is all about being safe on the metro and around trains. A series of different elements were designed for this campaign and it has been extremely successful all over the world.

First of all a song was written, uploaded to YouTube as a video and it got over 20 million views in a week. Then the song was released on iTunes. Every element of the campaign directly drove people to the website to pledge to be safe around trains, and nearly 1 million people took the pledge on the website.

There was also a book created for children which directed them to take the pledge on the website. Plus there was outdoor advertising such as large images on walls, which influenced people to promise to be safe around trains. As well as this a smartphone game also got more people involved and promise to be safe after playing it. The result of this multi media campaign was that it got people to adopt the rail safety like never before.

After looking at this campaign and the success of it, I will definitely be creating my own multi media campaign as I feel it comes across as more interesting to people.

Darwin's Evolution - Comic Versions

I have found these images on a website called 'awesome invention.com' and they each take the form of the idea of Darwin's Evolution. These are very influential for my project and are extremely clever designs.

I like how each of these show the development of different topics and subject matters, but all using the same design style and method.

Supervisor Meeting - 07/04/16

Today I had another meeting with my supervisor Miriam.

We briefly discussed the essay and some of the things that I should include in it.

We also spoke about how my campaign will be aimed at parents and not children, even though the campaign is about the negative effects of smartphones. This is so that the parents appreciate the message I will be portraying through the campaign and take it as they wish - whether they take it on board for their on children or not.

Miriam also suggested that I look at the Dumb Ways to Die campaign as this could influence my ideas for my own campaign.

We spoke about the idea of Darwin's evolution and how people have developed over the years. This could apply to the changes in children as they get older due to the effects of smartphones - and how the evolution is beginning to move backwards and not forwards.

We also discussed how I need to decide on a graphic and illustration style for my campaign, and stick to it the whole the way through within all elements of it.

Lastly we talked about the idea of having quotes or interesting facts about each subject of each poster on the posters, similar to how the NHS posters look.

My Survey for Primary Research

I have decided to conduct an online survey for my project as it is a way of receiving responses very quickly through a digital form, as all of the information will be collected automatically. Also by doing a survey it makes it easy to people to contribute when it is convenient for them, therefore tinflcuening more people to contribute.

This is the survey which I have created, which needs to be completed anonymously by parents of children under the age of 16 who use smartphones.

By gaining answers and feedback from this survey I will be able to see what real parent's opinions are on their child having a smartphone and whether they feel there are any consequences of letting their child use one. I have created similar questions in this survey to my research questions in order to receive responses to answer these.

I have posted the link to my survey on Facebook as well as sent the link to parents I know who have children who use smartphones. I will leave this survey open for around 2 weeks in which time I hope to receive a credible amount of responses.
